More And More Women Are Embracing Their Natural Grey Hair As Lockdown Eases

Lockdown’s taught us some tough beauty lessons. From having to let our hair grow longer than we wanted, to attempt a home haircut, we’ve missed the salons more than we’d care to admit.

But, perhaps most surprising of all, more women have found themselves embracing their natural grey hair during lockdown – and we have to say, the results are impressive.

Following in the footsteps of celebs like Lily Allen, who’ve been embracing their own grey roots, women across the UK are forgoing the home dye boxes in favour of letting their greys take hold.

Instagram is full of hashtags such as #embracegreyhair and #embracethegrey and we’re into it.

Instagram user Aleks decided to embrace her inner “silver fox” a year ago and says she couldn’t be happier with the results. Her hair is shinier, stronger and healthier than ever before.

Meanwhile, @lauriedala posted her own grey hair journey photos, showing off her incredible blonde-grey grombre look.

Meanwhile, @silverstrandsofglitter proved that greys really can have more fun, with a fab photo of her grey roots and darker ends.

So how do you go about embracing your own grey hair and what’s the best way to look after your tresses if you’re thinking of going grey?

Paddy McDougall, haircare brand Indola’s global ambassador, tells that embracing naturally grey hair can be freeing and empowering.

“The biggest thing to remember with grey hair,” he adds, “is it is usually a different texture. You will find, in most cases, it’s more coarse and resistant than your hair normally was, so it’s important to tailor your approach and choose your care and styling products wisely.”

Paddy recommends using a silverising shampoo which, he says, will optimise your grey, as well as ensuring hair stays lustrous and shiny.

“Introduce a treatment masque,” Paddy adds, “Maturer hair has less protein, so you need to feed your hair.”

“When the hair is coarser, you can find it can become a little more unkempt looking without lots of styling. Use Indola’s Innova Glamorous Oil to give the hair a more luxe, polished feel.

“Most of all, invest in a great haircut when you can to show your grey hair off to its full potential.”
